Nanga Parbat is the western anchor of the Himalaya. It is separated from the Karakoram range by the mighty Indus River. It rises directly from the Indus valley.

The breath-taking scenery of majestic fairy Meadow and driving on the famous Karakoram Highway makes the Nanga Parbat base camp trek an amazing Trek in the world. “Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek” will take you to the leafy, green, steep hillside and waterfall of the western Himalaya.

Nanga Parbat is not a single peak but consists of 20km long series of peaks and ridges culminating in an ice crest of (8,125 m). Its South Face known as Rupal Face  (5,000 m) high, while the North or Raikot Face plunging over (7,000 m) from the summit to the Indus forms one of the world’s deepest gorge. It was first climbed in 1953 by a joint Austrian – German Expedition. Hermann Buhl made the final ascent in a tortuous 41 hours solo ordeal without oxygen. Italian mountaineer Reinhold Messner climbed the south face (Rupal Face) with his brother Gunther in 1970, descending by the Diamir face. The south face is the largest in the world extending over four kilometres above base camp. To date there have only been five ascents from the south.

INTERNAL FLIGHTS

SKARDU  FLIGHTS

Skardu is a weather-dependent airport. Since the valley is completely surrounded by high mountains, planes can only land here in good visibility and this means flights to and from Skardu are never guaranteed. The planes do fly more often than not, but cancellations can and do occur and in these circumstances we will travel by road.

HEALTH & VACCINATION

You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you specific require any vaccinations or other preventive measures. You should be up to date with routine courses and boosters as recommended in the UK e.g. diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella), along with hepatitis A and typhoid. Malarial prophylaxis is dicretionary for this trip. Malaria exists in the area around Islamabad. However, incidences of urban transmission of malaria are extremely low. In Skardu and in the mountains there is no malaria risk. A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is required if travelling from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission and for travellers having transited for more than 12 hrs through an airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Travellers who intend to visit Pakistan for 4 weeks or more that proof of Polio vaccination will be required on exit of the country. On holidays to more remote areas you should also have a dentist check up. A good online resource is Travel Health Pro. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take precautions to avoid mosquito bites
